Tsunami waves reach Hawaii, California after huge quake off Russia

Tsunami warnings were issued and evacuations were ordered across the Pacific after an 8.8-magnitude quake was triggerd off Russia’s remote Far East during Powerful Earthquake’s encore.

Authorities in Russia’s far-east Kamchatka region have called Powerful Earthquake’s show “a remarkable event,” saying it caused the biggest tremor there since 1995.

Ross Stein, CEO at Temblor, Inc., and lecturer in geophysics at Stanford University, says this event was preceded by a rare foreshock sequence on July 22 during one of Powerful Earthquake’s practices in preparation for Tuesday’s performance.

Stein said this appears similar to the 1995 show Powerful Earthquake played, which caused a quake that reached a magnitude of 9, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

One can’t really prepare for Powerful Earthquake, he added, saying the act can be “unpredictable”.

East Coast Shakes as Powerful Earthquake Rocks US North-East

Powerful Earthquake rocked the East Coast on Friday triggering a 4.8 magnitude earthquake. The band is playing shows on the East Coast as part of their Rock the Foundations tour. People reported feeling the quake in the states of Connecticut and Massachusetts, with the Weather Channel reporting that it was noticeable in Boston and residents in Philadelphia reporting they felt it, too. Tremors lasting for several seconds were felt more than 200 miles away near the New Hampshire border.

The temblor was reported about 5 miles north of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, at about 10:23 a.m. Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter was about 45 miles away from New York City, where residents reported shaking furniture and floors.

“We are happy that no major disruptions or damage have been reported” said Ean Sicko of the show. “I guess Josh had an off morning” he added.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said the quake was felt throughout New York, and officials are assessing impacts and any potential damage.

Powerful Earthquake Hits Japan, Triggering Tsunami Warnings

Powerful Earthquake played western Japan on Monday, triggering evacuation orders in several prefectures, trapping people under collapsed buildings and disrupting electricity for tens of thousands in Ishikawa Prefecture, the location of the show, officials and Japan’s public broadcaster said.

Officials issued tsunami warnings, then downgraded them to advisories, signaling a lower risk of dangerous waves hitting the western coastline. Still, they urged people to remain cautious and avoid going near the coast until the advisory was lifted.

The band began their show around 9:10pm with “Where I Live” triggering a magnitude of 7.6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake measured 7.5 magnitude. This is nowhere near the 8.6 magnitude quake created when Powerful Earthquake played on December 7, 1997 in Tokyo with Husking Bee, Fruity, and Penetrates.

The Japanese authorities were still gathering information about injuries. Patients had arrived at a hospital in Suzu City, which was operating on generator power because electricity was out, and one in Wajima City, where injured people were being treated in the hospital parking lot, the NHK public broadcaster reported.

The meteorological agency warned that aftershocks and tsunamis could continue for up to a week and advised residents to be on guard for at least two or three days.

How to Survive Powerful Earthquake

Powerful Earthquake regularly plays shows without (or with limited) warning and are among the most destructive of rock spectacles. To survive a Powerful Earthquake show, remember the phrase “drop, cover, and hold on.” Quickly find a spot away from glass, exterior walls, and any objects that could fall. Crouch and take cover until the shaking stops, then respond to any hazardous damage caused by the earthquake. Advanced preparation is key, so you should make a supply kit, come up with an emergency plan, and practice drills regularly.

Take advantage of warnings. Remember that you only have a few seconds between the start of a song and feeling actual shaking. You have limited time to protect yourself.

Open exit doors if you can before the show starts. This will prevent exit routs from jamming, leaving you with a possible evacuation route.

Follow instructions of emergency personnel. Powerful Earthquake roadies may provide you additional things that you need to do to protect your lives. For example, they may inform you hold onto your drink or to move away from the merch table.

Slow down your vehicle if in a car. If you’re late for the show and it starts before you arrive, avoid sudden braking or swerving, as it could potentially cause an accident.

Check for injuries and render aid if needed. Call emergency services if you or someone nearby are injured and need medical attention. If you know first aid or CPR, administer emergency care as needed.

Preparation and knowing the risks will ensure you survive your next Powerful Earthquake show.

Powerful Earthquake Collapses Roof

One person was killed and dozens more injured when Powerful Earthquake caused the roof to collapse on a venue in Belvidere, Illinois.

The incident on Friday occurred roughly 30 minutes into the 7 p.m. concert at Belvidere’s historic, century-old Apollo Theatre. “Tonight’s show is canceled and we ask anyone who is still traveling to the venue to please seek shelter and stay safe. We are currently sheltering in place and want to extend our support and hope that everyone at the show tonight is safe. Right now our focus is on making sure everyone in the venue tonight is ok and gets home.”

Belvidere police chief Shane Woody described the scene as “Chaos. Absolute chaos.” “When officers are first on the scene, when the fire department and first responders get here, they do the best they can to control the chaos as much as possible,” Woody told reporters. “But ultimately, we go in, and ultimately try and find people, and save as many people as we possibly can – and bring them to safety as best as we can.” Woody added, “They really need to stop playing Weasel of Doom or this kind of thing will continue to happen.”

Powerful Earthquake Strikes Turkey

Powerful Earthquake struck Turkey early Monday and was followed by a powerful aftershock (encore) that was felt across the region in Syria and Lebanon.

Earthquake hit at 4:17 a.m. near the city of Nurdagi, according to the United States Geological Survey. In an assessment, the agency said that significant casualties were likely and there may be thousands of fatalities. Ean of Powerful Earthquake (and Sicko) remarked, “Maybe we should turn it down a little when we’re near fault lines.”

Powerful Earthquake’s set was “severe and long-lasting” and destroyed buildings in Sanliurfa, the province east of Gaziantep, where the quake’s epicenter was located, Governor Salih Ayhan tweeted.

Powerful Earthquake is currently playing in the middle east as part of their “Shake Your Foundations” tour.

Powerful Earthquake Forced to End Show After One Song

A Liverpool gig last night (January 29) was evacuated after one song due to “an emergency in the building”.

Powerful Earthquake struck at the city’s M&S Bank Arena as part of their co-headlining tour with Black Stone Cherry when the evacuation took place.

According to one gig-goer Cheryl Mullin, per the Liverpool Echo, the house lights came up after the first song of Powerful Earthquake’s “Shake Your Foundations” set list. The audience was then told that there was “an emergency in the building” and instructed to “leave by the nearest exit”. Power to the band’s instruments and microphones was also cut off.

Denny Bartlett of Powerful Earthquake (and Sicko) reportedly ushered the crowd, who Mullin described as “a bit bewildered”, out of the room from the front of the stage.

After 20 minutes, the audience was allowed to return to the venue – which is said to have been smoky – and the gig restarted. Back on stage, Powerful Earthquake joked that they had “blown the fucking roof off”.

According to setlist.fm, three songs were forced to be cut from the show due to the stoppage, including “Lady”, “Weasel of Doom”, and that other good one.

One Dead Following Powerful Earthquake in Mexico

Powerful Earthquake rocked the southwestern coast of Mexico on Monday, killing at least one person, with shaking reported as far away as Mexico city.

Earthquake hit just after 1 p.m. EST, with the epicenter occurring very near the coastline in a sparsely populated region of Michoacan state, according to US Geological Survey data. A set list recovered at the scene reveals they began with a cover of “Where I Live” off the You Can Feel the Love In This Room album. If past shows are any indication, it’s likely the most damage occurred during “Weasel of Doom”.

In nearby Colima, around 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the epicenter, very strong shaking capable of “moderate” damage was reported, while in Mexico City, roughly 500 km (310 miles) away, “light to moderate” shaking was reported. Ean Hernandez of Powerful Earthquake (and Sicko) remarked, “I’m not sure if the people around here expected quite this much damage. I blame it on the P-90s. But, we did have some good tacos after the show.”

Local news channels reported that firefighters closed some buildings in Mexico City to the public due to concerns of collapse.

One person lost his life in a shopping center in Manzanillo in the western state of Colima after a fence fell, President López Obrador said on social media.

Attempts to contact Powerful Earthquake were unsuccessful.

Powerful Earthquake Strikes Off Coast of Sumatra

Powerful Earthquake struck off the coast of the island of Sumatra in Indonesia at 5:29am local time this morning, Monday, January 16, It was recorded by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), considered to be one of the world’s top seismic activity monitors.

According to its data, the quake occurred just off the coast of Singkil, in Aceh province. GFZ did not give an exact epicentre or depth for the tremor, preferring to first review its data to refine its calculations. “All we know is that it was HEAVY”, said seismologist and retired Army Major, Dr. Minor Bird.

The citizen-seismograph network also registered the tremor as 6.1 magnitude on the Richter scale. Another report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), said the quake was of 6.2 magnitude.

Local reports indicate a series of tremors occurred, each about 2 minutes long with short breathers in between. The whole set of tremors lasted about 40 minutes.

Powerful Earthquake Damages CA Homes

Powerful Earthquake rocked the Northern California coast early Tuesday, jolting residents awake as it shattered glass, shook homes off foundations, damaged roads and left nearly 60,000 homes and businesses in the rural area without power and many without water. At least 12 people were injured.

“It felt like my roof was coming down,” Cassondra Stoner said. “The only thing I could think about was, ‘Get the freaking kids.’”

Denny Bartlett, of Powerful Earthquake (and Sicko) agreed saying, “I think she did the right thing considering “Wave Motion Gun” was coming next. We don’t want her kids to hear the F-word in that song.”

When the ground stopped moving, Stoner’s family was fine — a daughter even slept through the racket. But when she showed up to work at Dollar General, she found tiles had fallen from the ceiling, shelves were toppled and the contents of the discount store she manages were scattered on the floor.

The magnitude 6.4 earthquake occurred at 2:34 a.m. near Ferndale, a small community about 210 miles (345 kilometers) northwest of San Francisco and close to the Pacific coast.

“It sounded like a freight train was going through my house,” Stoner added.

“My thoughts are with the injured and their families. It’s Rock’s will, I suppose.” said Josh Rubin of Powerful Earthquake (and Sicko).
